Core yarn wrapping is a common manufacturing technique used in work gloves. It leverages the advantages of different yarns to enhance the performance of the wrapped yarn, such as protection and comfort. M-tide’s core yarns are typically spandex and polyester.
What are the yarn covering processes used in work gloves?
Yarn wrapping typically refers to the process of wrapping other yarns around the core yarn. This results in improved elasticity, abrasion resistance, and protection. M-tide’s wrapping processes are ACY and MCY.
A process in which an outer yarn is wrapped around a stretched core yarn using mechanisms such as rotating spindles. MCY-produced covered yarns are more tightly wound and have a smooth surface. Additionally, pressure is applied during the winding process, the outer yarn must possess a certain level of strength. Common MCY types include:
- Spandex yarn + polyester
- Spandex yarn + cotton
- Spandex yarn + metallic yarn
- Spandex yarn + nylon
Utilizes high-pressure compressed air to wrap the outer yarn around the core yarn. The velocity of the air jet determines the uniformity of the wrapping. This process imparts greater flexibility to the covered yarn. Air-wrapping also minimizes fiber damage and maintains a smooth, comfortable feel. Common types include:
- Spandex yarn + nylon
- Spandex yarn + polyester
Based on the number of yarn layers used for covering, they can be classified as follows:
Single Covered Yarn:
The core yarn is covered with only one layer of yarn. First, the core yarn is stretched. Then, the outer yarn is wrapped around it. The inner core yarn provides elasticity, while the outer yarn provides a comfortable feel and stability.
Double Covered Yarn:
The core yarn is wrapped with two layers of yarn. The outermost layer is typically wound in the opposite direction. This effectively counteracts the bending force caused by the inner layer’s winding. As a result, double-covered yarn is less prone to bending, knotting, or curling.
